How You Can Prevent Low Back Pain
While our primary goal for our Woodbury chiropractic patients is to give you the best spinal health possible, the reality is that we can only do so much each visit. This means that the majority of responsibility in maintaining a healthy back and spine falls on you.
Here are some tips to maintaining good spinal health:
Drinking lots of water. Your spinal disc are composed primarily of water. Staying hydrated will help keep the disc working at maximum function.
Posture is key: When you sit, stand and walk with poor posture, you are fatiguing the muscles faster as they try to keep you upright. This will also limit your mobility. Place a sticky note at the computer to remind you to sit up straight.
Vitamins: supplements can help improve the strength and stability of your spine. The most important are Calcium and Vitamin D.
Sit less! Sitting is the new smoking. Over time you will feel the effects of prolonged sitting. Make it a habit to get up every 30 minutes and move around.
Lift with a friend: Lifting heavy or awkward objects can put you at risk for a disc herniation (slipped disc) or strain to the low back muscles. Asking a Friend to help you lift will reduce the weight and position of the lift.
